I'm Michael Birkeland, and I’m running for reelection as the Area 3 Representative on the Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education.
Every child in our district deserves a safe learning environment, access to high-quality education, and the support needed to succeed. Our students thrive when they are taught by skilled, dedicated educators who feel valued and respected by their community. As a school board member, I am committed to ensuring that students, educators, and families have the resources and support they need for success.
Having spent nearly my entire life in the district, as a student, teacher, and now board member, I have seen both the strengths and challenges within our schools. I believe in investing in safe, functional buildings and strong educators so that students can reach their full potential. To achieve this, we must foster a culture of mutual respect and collaboration among parents/guardians, staff, and the board.
